菌絲根據(jù)菌絲的著生部位、形態(tài)和功能的不同，放線菌菌絲可分為基內(nèi)菌絲、氣生菌絲和孢子絲三種，其中只有典型的放線菌（如鏈霉菌）具有氣生菌絲，原始的放線菌則沒有。和霉菌不同，沒有直立菌絲（放線菌準確來說不能算細菌，因為形態(tài)差異太大，可說霉菌又沒有準確特征）。1．基內(nèi)菌絲鏈霉菌的孢子落在適宜的固體基質(zhì)表面，在適宜條件下吸收水分，孢子腫脹，萌發(fā)出芽，進一步向基質(zhì)的四周表面和內(nèi)部伸展，形成基內(nèi)菌絲，又稱初級菌絲（primary mycelium）或者營養(yǎng)菌絲，直徑在0.2～0.8微米之間，色淡，主要功能是吸收營養(yǎng)物質(zhì)和排泄代謝產(chǎn)物。可產(chǎn)生黃、藍、紅、綠、褐和紫等水溶色素和脂溶性色素，色素在放線菌的分類和鑒定上有重要的參考價值。放線菌中多數(shù)種類的基內(nèi)菌絲無隔膜，不斷裂，如鏈霉菌屬和小單孢菌屬等；但有一類放線菌，如諾卡氏菌型放線菌的基內(nèi)菌絲生長一定時間后形成橫隔膜，繼而斷裂成球狀或桿狀小體。2．氣生菌絲（aerial mycelium）是基內(nèi)菌絲長出培養(yǎng)基外并伸向空間的菌絲，又稱二級菌絲（secondary mycelium）。
